Verona, 22 October 2025 -
The crucial role of sustainable fuels such as LNG for the ecological transition in the transport sector was the focus of the conference entitled 'Gaseous fuels LPG and LNG: development perspectives, projects and concrete solutions for low-emission heavy and light transport', held in Verona on the occasion of the Oil & Non-Oil 2025 trade fair.
Organised by Assogasliquidi-FederchimicaThe meeting brought together the main players in the supply chain to take stock of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) market, a key sector for achieving the decarbonisation targets set by European policies and the Green Deal.
Big players in the supply chain
Prominent speakers included Costantino AmadeiPresident of the Assogasliquidi LNG Group, and Andrea FernandiCSO of Vulcan.
The presence of major industry players such as HAM Italia, Sol, Iveco and Scania (our strategic partners in the development of biomethane) was also crucial, demonstrating the industry's growing commitment to low-emission solutions.
Assogasliquidi: structural incentives needed
Costantino Amadei emphasised the need for targeted government support for the LNG and BIOGNL sector.
In fact, Assogasliquidi has asked the government for a series of incentives in the form of tax credits.
Proposals include:
- A tax credit on fossil LNG vehicles currently in circulation.
- A tax credit of 10% on fossil LNG consumption, which rises to 22% for the use of BIOGNL (Liquefied Natural Gas from biological and renewable sources).
- For the means of new registration planned for next year, consumption incentives would increase significantly: 20% for LNG and up to 40% for BIOGNL.
Amadei emphasised that this is a request that has already been submitted to the authorities, with the intention of making such interventions a measure structural for the next three yearsproviding stability and confidence to investors and operators in the sector.
Vulcan: rebuilding trust and working on commissioning
Andrea Fernandi, Vulcan's Chief Sales Manager, pointed out that the success of the transition depends on the ability to rebuilding trust of the end user in the LNG vehicle.
According to Fernandi, there are two pillars to achieve this:
- Price stability, essential for the planning and investment of logistics operators.
- Demand stimulation not only for road hauliers, but also 'working on commissioning', i.e. for large companies commissioning transport, and on the major fleets who have to take the decision to replace the most polluting vehicles with new liquefied gas solutions.
The conference therefore reaffirmed the joint commitment of associations, suppliers and manufacturers to promoting LNG and BIOGNL as concrete and immediately available routes to cleaner freight transport in line with the challenges of environmental sustainability.
